Jais Raids Premise Holding Islamic Medicine Course

SHAH ALAM, July 30 (Bernama) -- Selangor Islamic Department (JAIS) officers today raided a shophouse in Kota Kemuning as a group of people were attending a course on Islamic medicine.

A man known as 'Tok Belagak',46, was addressing participants on 'Kursus Asas Rawatan Islam Darul Saka' at 12.15pm when the JAIS enforcement officers pounced.

JAIS Enforcement Division assistant director Zaaba Zakaria said 'Tok Belagak', his wife and 11 followers were taken to JAIS office to record statements and then released.

The 36 participants were directed to report to JAIS office to have their staements recorded.

"JAIS also seized tables, files, holy books and course notes," he told a press conference here today.

The case is investigated under Section 119 Islamic Administration Enactment (Selangor) 2003 for preaching without approval where offenders can be fined not more RM3,000 or jailed two years' or both.

Zaaba said JAIS conducted the raid after receiving complaints from the public on a group preaching Islam illegally.

"We have to investigate as Tok Belagak used verses from Al-Quran in his treatment, he added.

The course is believed to have had been around for nearby two years. Participants paid RM250 each for the one-day course.
