LETTER: A personal decision to quit

I agree wholeheartedly with Loyd Enochs and his view on smoking and quitting the habit. It should be left up to the individual to stop the dirty habit. I too was once a heavy smoker. When I quit there was never any talk of banning smoking in public places. I quit because of my family and my friends who had to be around me when I lit up. And I had absolutely no regard for them that were around me. Which brings me to the point. No one is telling anyone they have to quit or that they are not allowed to smoke cigarettes or cigars, just don't expect others to have to breath your poison.

As for leaving it up to the owners, most of them smoke also. And they are not interested in protecting their employees' well being. They have dollar signs marching in their heads. It may slow some of their patronage down at first, but if they are true patrons, they should continue to give their support and also protect the public and the employees. Smokers talk about they have the right to smoke. No one has ever said they won't be able to smoke.

And don't tell me I don't have to go into these places that allow smoking, I'm not telling you where to go. Just asking that you consider the family and people around you. And if you should choose to quit smoking on your own, more power to you. I sincerely hope you can accomplish that on your own.

And to Mr.Enochs, hats off, congratulations on kicking the habit. There had to be a reason and a way.
