The hospital established a smoking-cessation program in 2007, and pays all expenses related to helping employees quit smoking, including counseling, educational classes and stop-smoking aids such as nicotine patches.
“Clearly smoking is a challenge, as is obesity,” CEO Bruce Schroffel said. “If we can reduce those levels, we can have a healthier and more productive society.”
In addition, UCH forbids smoking anywhere on its 225-acre campus.
