ENCAMPMENT, Wyo. — A Utah company plans to operate a sawmill in Encampment to process beetle-killed trees from the Medicine Bow National Forest.
The Rawlins Daily Times reports Thompson Logging expects to employ 15 to 18 people by mid-April at the sawmill.
Company president Terry Thompson says the company expects to be able to operate for years in the area because of the massive amount of beetle-killed timber.
Thompson Logging is leasing the sawmill from the town of Encampment. Mahon Timber previously leased the mill.
Thompson is based out of Kamas, Utah. It makes graded dimensional lumber and custom-milled timber as well as landscaping mulches and animal bedding.
