Law Enforcement agencies in Moore County collected approximately 105,901 dosage units of prescription and over-the-counter pills during Operation?Medicine Drop, according to a release from the Moore County Sheriff’s Department.
The medicines were collected during the week of March 20 through March 26.
The Moore County Sheriff’s Office partnered with local Police agencies in Moore County, in conjunction with Drug Free Moore County and the Moore Drug Prevention Task Force to host drop-off locations.
Operation Medicine Drop is a program aimed at providing citizens with a safe and secure method of disposing of their prescription and over-the-counter medications, which may be expired or unused.
Operation Medicine Drop was conducted throughout the state in association with Safe Kids of North Carolina, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
The collected pills were turned over to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation for destruction.
Law enforcement agencies participating included Aberdeen, Southern Pines, Pinehurst, Robbins, Vass, Whispering Pines, Carthage, and Taylortown police departments.
In addition, another pill drop off event is scheduled for April 30 in Moore County.
This event will be conducted by Moore County School Resource Officers, Moore County Law Enforcement agencies, Drug Free Moore County, Moore Drug Prevention Task Force, and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Drop off locations and times for that event will be available at a later date.
