CHARLESTON -- RX by TEL Pharmacy and Vitamin store on the West Side of Charleston is not your grandfathers vitamin store. Your order is manufactured and custom packaged to your needs, right in the store.
Owner Walter Moore said this store is unique.
"We manufacture not only the vitamins, but me make the supplement fact sheets, we make the labels themselves," he said.
Store manager Bill Smith added, " We actually make the pills and actually put them in the bottle. We're regulated with Homeland security and the FDA."
RxbyTel is fully automated. No longer does a pharmacist count out the pills.
"Everything pretty much now a days is robotic," Smith said. "This machine here will actually count the tablets, put it in a bottle, it puts the label on the bottle, the name, the directions, the medicine and then it brings it out on this conveyor belt over here, which then, the only thing I have to do is scan it to verify the medicine and it brings up a picture is check that picture with tablets in the bottle to make sure it's accurate."
Once the pills are counted, you can have them packaged specifically to your needs.
"The thing that's nice about this is when you pull it out you've got a whole days supply in this group of packages," Moore said. "You can tear this off with your nutritional supplement and take the other three and put them in your pocket and take them during the day."
Unique they are, Moore, who was raised on the West Side, said he couldn't think of a better place to have their store.
"On the whole I think we've created a nice niche for us on the West Side," he said.
