PHILIP Morris-Fortune tobacco Company Inc. (PMFTCI), one of the biggest cigarette companies in the Philippines, supports national no-smoking programs.
Despite being a tobacco company, PMTC Inc. does not promote their product to non-smokers and even to minors.

“We support a clear and consistent public health message about smoking, disease and addiction,” said company management. This statement is to clear rumors about cigarette companies’ target market.
As for PMFTC Inc., they only target existing adult smokers and do not encourage non-smokers to try their product. They also admitted their product is hazardous but explained smoking is a choice.
“We never denied the effects of cigarette. Thus, our company supports public smoking restrictions in the country.”
Meanwhile, while PMFTC Inc. supports non-smoking programs, they pointed if the government really wants to stop smoking, prevention programs should be the focus instead.
“Values formation is an important factor to stop smoking or not to try to smoke. It can even help the young to avoid peer pressure.”
The management of the company said education program is important to at least minimize the number of smokers, if cannot be totally removed. Since quitting is not easy for smokers, it’s better to invest prevention programs for children for them not to try cigarette smoking.
In line with this, PMFTC Inc. partnered with Knowledge Channel to air episodes that highlight the effects of smoking to human body to make a strong impact on them.
