Don Bosco overcame a 12-0 deficit at halftime to defeat the Grundy Center Spartans 15-12 in the first round of the Class A State Football playoffs at Grundy Center on October 26.

Grundy Center dominated the line of scrimmage in the first half, as the Spartans assumed a 12-0 lead at halftime.

Mark Weber of Don Bosco blocked a punt for a safety for the Dons early in the third quarter to get Don Bosco on the board. The Dons then drove down the field later in the quarter, with Jake Phillips scoring on an option play.

Don Bosco missed the point, and Grundy Center still led 12-8.

Don Bosco scored in the fourth quarter on a pass play from Jake Hogan to Brandt Becker for what turned out to be the winning touchdown! Adam Corkery kicked the extra point, for a 15-12 Don Bosco lead, which turned out to be the winning score.

The Don Bosco defense played much better in the second half to stifle the Spartans.

The Dons owned up in the second half, and they controlled the line of scrimmage for the win.

With the victory, Don Bosco advanced to the second round of the playoffs. The Dons played at Postville on October 31.
