
The dean of UC Davis' medical school and a veterinary medicine expert at the university were named to the prestigious Institute of Medicine, officials announced Monday.
Claire Pomeroy, dean of the University of California, Davis School of Medicine, and Patricia Conrad, veterinary parasitologist in the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, were elected to the institute, considered one of the top honors in health and medicine in the country.
Pomeroy and Conrad are part of the global One Health movement bringing together health professionals to study and find solutions to human and animal health challenges.
Pomeroy oversees the UC Davis Health System, including the university's Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing, UC Davis Medical Group and UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. Conrad is co-director of the One Health Center at the University of California Global Health Institute in San Francisco.
"The Institute of Medicine has chosen two of the brightest, most visionary health scientists in the nation," said UC Davis Chancellor Linda P.B.

Katehi, in a statement. With the election, 11 UC Davis current and emeritus faculty members are now institute members.
